How Did This Start?
In the Spring of 2022 I decided that I wanted to do a long term backpacking trip across central and eastern Europe. I had many friends who had done something similar and I wanted to see more of the world while i was young. For most, this would be an easy enough process to get started but because of my nationality and passport, it required months of planning and hundreds of dollars to invest. During my journey I met dozens of people who were so curious and unaware of what it's like for travellers from less developed countries, so I'd like to share my experience.
...and they weren't alone
But beyond just raising awareness I'd like to create some change. The measures are archaic, heavily biased and discriminatory. I'm not delusional, I understand why they're in place and what they were set up to achieve but in 2022, with the improvement of technology and increased stability in many less developed countries, things need to be revised.
I'm working with my team to devise a strategy in collaboration with my own and foreign governments to at least begin a conversation about improving the process. That's all I can ask for at this point.
